Walter McNamara 1885-1920

I am searching for my grandfather Walter McNamara
He was born in the United States around 1885. is father was Timothy McNamara and Mary Ann McNamara ( formely Linskey)
They were born in Liverpool England around 1858. They had another Son William and daughter Nora. i have been searching the ellis island website but the records only go back to 1892 Walter was born in 1885. I am not sure which State he was born. I ahve his marriage and death records here in England.
Can you advise me how I can durther my research? I have been looking for his mother Mary Ann who obviously resided in the U S when she gave birth to Walter.
