I have launched a Haviland DNA Surname Project to certify various branches of the Haviland family, including those with the name Haviland of unknown ancestry, those with variant surname spellings such as De Havilland, Havilant, Havellande, Haveland, Heavilon, and others, those who descend from the Irish family of Havlin or may have the surname of Havoline or Haveline, and those who descend from the Germanic family of Haverland or may have the surname of Haverlanth, Hawerland or Hauerlandt and may live in the area of the Netherlands.
The Y-DNA test requires male participants bearing a variation of the surname Haviland. The test is easy and painless: a kit is mailed to you, you swab the inside of your cheek, and you mail the swab to the lab. Then you wait for the results. Currently males are invited to enroll in the 43 marker Y-DNA test, which is far more accurate and conclusive than the 10 or 20 marker tests. Until the end of 2004, it is only $169. (This is a low price for a 43 marker test. The regular price is $199.)
