loys from ireland in iowa

looking for any info on the loy family from harrison, harrison county, iowa in 1880. my great, great grandfather thomas loy raised his family there with spouse ann or anna, children george, edward and julia. have been able to trace thomas from amargh, ireland (ulster) and wondering if he would have been one of many scotch-irish that immigrated to the US during the 19th century...thanks for any help
