My g-gfthr, George L O'Donnell was born in the area of Carndonagh, Co Donegal, Ireland, in 1864, to John O'Donnell and Bridget Nelson. My g-gfthr immigrated to Woburn, MA., in 1884. Two of my g-gfthrs older sisters preceded him to Woburn. His sister Rosanna married a John Taffe, in Woburn, and homesteaded in Big Stone County, MN. His sister Catherine, married a Daniel McCaron, also in Woburn, and they migrated to Nobles County, MN (followign Daniel's death, Catherine married a Charles Dillehay in Nobels County, MN.). Two of my g-gfthrs' brothers also immigrated to MA. Although both lived in Woburn at some point, both John and Patrick settled in the Salem/Peabody MA. area.
It's believed my g-gfthr, and his siblings that immigrated to the Boston area, initially stayed with thier Uncle Patrick O'Donnell in Woburn. He immigrated to Woburn 1850.
Besides their parents; Rosanna, Catherine, George, John, and Patrick O'Donnell, left several siblings in the Carndonagh area of Ireland. I don't have all the names, and know very little of them. For certain, there was a James (his sons Michael, Charlie, and Edward would all immigrate to the Salem/Peabody MA area, initially living with my g-gfthr's brother Patrick in the earlier 1900s). There was also a sister Elizabeth that married a Gibbons/Gubbins; a sister that married Doherty; and I'm relevantly certain, a brother Philip. There were others as well that stayed in Ireland.
My g-gfthr first married Annie Tenney in Wobrum. She died shortly after giving birth. His second wife was Mary McElhinney. George and Mary had one child that lived pas infancy (John). George and Mary had my g-gfthr George, James (the Woburn High School Auditorium is named for him), and Ellen, that lived beyond infancy.
O'Donnell Square, in Salem, MA is named for the Edward O'Donnell mentioned previously. Several of my g-gfthr's Doherty neices/nephews also immigrated to Woburn in the 20's/30's and initially stayed with my g-gfthr or gfthr before getting their own places.
I would love to hear from anyone having knowledge and/or information on this family.
