Jane Packham arrived in New York from Liverpool on the City of Washington in May 1858. She was single and 31 years old. She sent a copy of Pilgrim's Progress to my great grandfather Joseph Wood inscribed "A gift from Aunt Packham who sailed from England to Anmerica May 12th 1858". Whether she was a real aunt or a "Victorian aunt" I do not know.
The family also has a daguerrotype photograph of about the same date of someone supposed to be "Uncle Stephen". Was he linked to Jane Packham? If he was an Uncle, could his surname be Wood?
There are references to a Jane Packham around Janesville WI in the early 1860's. Could it be the same Jane Packham?
