Melinda,
The old church, with the large pig, was the church that the Yaxham Critoph family attended. It was referred to as the "Old Moor Chapel" although it was previously known as the Meeting House. I have a history of the Church and it was known, first, as the Independent and later the Congregational Church. When it was closed, the organ, pews etc. were moved to the Welgate Chapel in Mattishall, where they are still in use. Buried at the Old Moor Chapel are, William and Mary Critoph, their son Herbert Thomas and daughters Anna Matilda & Emma Jane as well as two sons of John and Susanna Meale, Frank Fitt and Fred Thomas. The Yaxham Meeting House, (with Critoph on the cornerstone) was built in 1875 to be more convienient, since the Old Moor Chapel was considered to be a bit remote.
There still seems to be some who cling to the use of High Church as a status synbol.I am sending my information on the Critoph family to your cousin Don. Let me know if you would like the same.
