Thanks for your tips and offers of help. I have finally been able to get in touch with the mother of my son's friend and will be getting more info soon. It appears that it was not Mary that married a Marinaccio but her mother.

It does appear that the EZZO name was IZZO before they came to the U.S. I have hopefully found that family's Ellis island records. Am waiting on the mother to verify that too.

Let you know when I have more concrete info.
