I am trying to obtain any information about my gt aunt LAURA GAGAN, she was sent to Canada Ontario, in 1885 from the Stoke on Trent workhouse, with her brother Stephen was Geoghan, but this was changed to Gagan.
Grace married Augustus Gartland in 1894, she died in 1931, as far as I know, only one of her children Mary Loretta survived, and I would love to contact any descendants if any. Stephen, my grandfather married Mabel Grant in 1894 and they left Canada in 1900 with their daughter Laura Maud (my mother born in 1896) and went to Scotland. I have been unable to trace Laura Gagan any further past 1891 when she was according to the census, still in service with Mrs Catherine Hayes (a widow) did she marry and if so to who, and did she have any descendants?
There had been correspondence with my mother (then Laura Barr) until shortly after WW2, this ceased, by my Mother I think, when she was afraid her children would start to ask questions, which she was reluctant to answer concerning the past lives of her parents whilst in Canada.
There had been a visit from her cousin? around 1947/8 Charlie Herd or Heard? I also had correspondence with a cousin Eleanor ?, I never knew her surname or her address. Does any of these details "ring a bell" for anyone?
