Thomas William Martin was born probably in 1847 in Canada. He married Elizabeth Jane Frelat and had three children. The first two were born in Canada: Elizabeth Jane Martin (b. Sept 1867) and Joseph Martin (b. 1869). The family relocated from Perce, Gaspe, Quebec, Canada to Peaks Island, Maine, USA abt 1873. A daughter, Harriet Skillen Martin, was born in 1874 after the family moved to Maine. Thomas was a fisherman and was lost at sea in 1875. For years I have sought additional information about Thomas. I have seen no documentary evidence of his parentage, marriage or death. His name appears in the marriage records of his children and in family letters, but that is all. I cannot be certain that Thomas was born at Perce or was perhaps passing through while working on fishing boats. I could not find a death record in Maine. Can anyone help me to learn more about Thomas, who is my gr-gr-gr grandfather?? There must be a family of Martins out there in maritime Canada, quite likely not limited to the Gaspe, who have fishing in their blood and had a son who went south with his young family about 1873?
