I also would like to find more information on this surname. Oral tradition in the family does say the name came from France (Alsace-Lorraine).
I am unable to determine what the original French spelling may have been as the name has been Anglicized (am unfamiliar with the French language.) Have also seen the name spelled in this country as "Charche." (Pronounced Char - SHAY' (long a sound.)
Family is found in Maryland in the 1700's. Supposedly one of my family members who is now deceased found evidence of the CHarsha family coming into Annapolis, but presently no one has been able to find the same evidence.
We think one of the original families was Edward and Phoebe Charshe(Charche.)
Thank you for any help.
