John and his wife Sophia came to America with their five children 1851. The family landed in New Orleans and they lived there three years. He died of Cholera soon after their arrival. He moved to Davenport, IA in 1854.
July 2003 Jim and Mavis Jarchow visited the grave lot 155, block 9 in Fairmount Cemetery. He has a large stone with F Langman no notes. Sopha has a small stone close to his grave and also Bertha Langmann Laschanzley.
Son John:Article written in newspaper: John emigrated to America with his parents in 1851. He emigrated to America through New Orleans in 1851. His father died of Cholera soon after they arrived and John the oldest son was the main support for his mother and family.
John married at the age of 27 years to Mary Schmeto also from Mecklenburg, Germany. From this union they had 11 children. John began farming in Scott County in 1866, in Cedar County in 1874, and retired in 1903. They moved to the town of Bennet, Iowa.
John was reared as a Lutheran in Germany. He was a school supervisor for 12 years and a township trustee also a road supervisor. His political beliefs were Democratic. He died in Bennett, Iowa.
Mary Schmeto emigrated to Davenport, Iowa at the age of 16 years. She married Mr John Langmann November 16, 1860. With this union there were 11 children.
The name Hamp we are not certain if it could be her maiden name or second husbands name. Mary was raised as a Lutheran.
There were two infants born to Mary and John that are buried in the Davenport City Cemetery. One was nameless and the other was was named John and died at the age of 2 years and 7 months.
