looking for connection in Ireland where my gggrandpather came from. His name was Joseph Hughes must have been born 1828 or 1829. He died and buried in the Victor memorial Cemetery in Victor, Iowa on May 8, 1878 at the age of 49 yrs old.
I was told that he had other brothers who also came to America and their names were George and John.
I don;t know where they came with him or before him or after he came to America.
He did have a younger brother William who came later with his widowed mother. I assume that Joseph.s father must have died during the famine and I assume that they came from Northern Ireland , but not positve.
I assume at one point that they all came to Iowa and some of the brothers stayed in iowa and William , the younger brother ended up in Missouri.
I know that Joseph had a farm in Honey Creek twp. in Iowa county , Iowa .
Joseph must have arrived in America somewhere between 1845 and 1850 because he married a Mary A. Dempster and they had their first child Alexander in abt. 1850and 1851 in Penn.
Mary A. Demspter came to America from the port of Belfast to the port of Phil., Penn. in 1847 with her parents and siblings.
She must have met and married Joseph sometime after her arrival to America which would be between 1847 and 1850.
They had their second child Henry in Penn. in abt.1853
Then they are found in the Ohio census where the birth of their third child born Isabella in1855.
The rest of the children born in Iowa .
All total they had 8 children.
If anyone can help me connect to Ireland , I would appreciate it.
