I am writing in hopes that maybe you can help me. I am a beginner at tracing my family tree and I have hit a crossroads.
My great-grandmother's name was Mary L. Gillen. She arrived in New York from Ireland about 1872 (give or take a few years, not a definite year). This information comes from the 1900 census when she was living in Manhattan. Mary L. Gillen married John C. Sievers. They lived in New York City. Whereabouts are not known. I do know that my grandmother, Florence was born in New York. Mary and John had two daughters, Florence Mary and Dorothy. I do not know if there were any other children. My dad does not remember. He does remember that my great-grandmother lived in New York City until she died. When she died I do not know.
I have tried to find her on Ancestry.com so that I can locate my grandmother, Florence. I have been unable to find either one of them and hopefully you will be able to help me.
My greatgrandmother, Mary and my grandmother, Florence lived all their life in New York.
Florence married Paul Henry Keil, my grandfather, in New York. They raised three children, Kenneth (my father), Paul (my uncle), and Barbara (my aunt). They lived in Queens when the kids were young and then moved out to East Meadow, Long Island. The family has always lived on Long Island. Florence died at age 54 on June 11, 1965. So I never knew her. I have only seen a few pictures and my Dad has limited information on her.
I hope that I have not rambled on too much but like I said I am new to this and I have been unable to locate anything on my great-grandmother and hopefully your Gillen family is connected to mine.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Tracy Glock
