In Response To: Re: Ancestry Search in Bilbao (Reynaldo)

The computer advised me that you had replied to my message to you and so I came here to see what else you might have asked. You are very welcome for any help or encouragement you've received for your search. Sometimes it can be discouraging; the process is not a quick one and requires patience and endurance.

Anyway, as I was reading your response, it occurred to me that we are writing to one another on a site that I have not frequented often. Most people who write to me usually do so through two other channels. The first would be my website, "The Basque Genealogy Homepage," which you are more than welcome to visit. The second is a site called RootsWeb, with which you may be familiar (however some people are not and I would not want that to be the case for you...RootsWeb is definately something of which you would want to be aware. Particularly the part of the site (which is free and open to the public) which houses family trees. It's called the WorldConnect Project.

As I thought about you possibly not being aware of this information, I also became aware that I did not know if I had anyone with the surname LANDAZABAL on my very own database. So I went there just now and found that I do: six individuals. You can see them on the tree by going to RootsWeb and then going to the WorldConnect. Then you simply put "LANDAZABAL" in the space for surname. At this point you should see 7 entries, one of which is from a person other than myself. Their listing is for a woman named Magdalena Landazabal born circa 1600.

The six LANDAZABAL family members on our tree are ancestors of my husband (Fernando). Those for whom I have a birth date and place were born in Lejona (a town outside the city of Bilbao). I feel sorry that I did not think to look at this previously. What a sad thing it would be to overlook information that might potentially lead you to your family (even if in a round about way).

As I write this I am thinking of other sites which might be of assistance to you, but very honestly I am too tired right now to continue writing. It is 3:15am and I need to rest awhile so that I may work in the morning. (Do not be concerned, I only got up for a drink of water a short time ago and saw that you had posted a message). So I'll go back to sleep and be just fine, but do remind me that I had more information that might help you if I don't get back here to post more in the next few days.

I hope you have a very pleasant day. It should be about 11:30am in Alcala de Henares. You are so lucky to be there (in my opinion). I would love to be there. I do not know Alcala well, having only passed by there on the train when I was residing in Coslada/San Fernando and we would travel to Torrejon. Sorry I'm not even using accent marks I am so tired. Anyway, Fernando has ancestors from Alcala de Henares. I would be so very interested in finding information for them, but in nearly 23 years (that's how long we've been married and I've been doing his research as well as my own) they've never filmed the records that might lead me to their information. Recently I was very saddened by someone telling me that there were some trouble (I hesitate even to mention it because I do not want to breed any ill feelings in anyone who might read this post in a public forum). But if true, it is a sad thing if the Catholic Church no longer wishes to allow the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to microfilm records. There are so many, many of us who have benefitted from the registers handwritten over centuries and also blessed by those who have preserved the records in our time. How I hope that news is not true or at the very least that the Catholic Church has some plan in mind to film their own records. It is such a blessing to know from whom and where you come. It gives one strength to move forward in a world of trials.

I would like to ask you more about the records of Alcala. Perhaps you would have information about how I might find more of what I seek. We will continue this conversation at another time.

Susan
