We don't know exactly where he came from and that is the problem. We believe it is somewhere in the Essex area or surounding counties. As for his date of birth, well that is a guess from anywhere in the late 1500's to the early 1600's. He had a son John with a first wife before he migrated to Massachusetts in 1630 with the Winthrop Fleet. There is no mention of her coming with him and their son. He remarried after migrating and had other children. Other family names are Isaac (his second son whom I am descended from), Samuel, Abraham, and Martha. There were two other Finch's who also came over at the same time but we don't know if they are related. They were Daniell and Abraham.
Do you have your family history in a computer file with dates, etc? I would be very interested in comparing your ancestry to mine. We are actually working on a DNA project in order to find common lines of ancestry with Finch's in England and hope to have other volunteers from England to be in the project. since so many records are missing it is the only way to trace his ancestry. If you know of anyone interested in this "history" project, let me know!
