Hello Dawn,
Daxon is a very old English surname and has been spelled Daxon, Daxson, Dacson, etc. over the years. It is a variant of Dickson, Dixon. It derives fron a personal name and menas 'son of Dick" or Richard. It is likely that this name was introduced into England at the time of the Norman Conquest. There is also a branch of Irish Daxon lineage, but they are a plantation family who were Englishmen who were given land in Ireland during the time of Cromwell. It's certainly a fairly rare name, and I would like to know your line so we could see if we are related. The name, throughout the past few centuries, appears to be concentrated in the area of Lancashire and Cheshire, though further back (16th & 17th centuries) it appears in Yorkshire and Lincilnshire as well.
I am in contact with various other Daxon researchers as well. Those in the USA seem to be primarily descended from the Irish branch, and those in Canada and England seem to be descended from the English Daxons generally. Where are you? I'm Canadian.
I have a fairly extensive Daxon family tree for my branch of the family, plus some info on other connected branches, and am willing to share info if you would like to contact me. Oddly enough, I have a cousin named Dawnne Daxon, but given your spelling and hers I assume you are not she.
Cheers,
Wendy Daxon
