Link surname

Hi,

My grandmothers last name was "Link", at least that is what it states on her papers and in an authors book. That is the only last name I know of for her. She was Polish. She was born in a small town in what now is part of the Ukraine. She could speak both Polish and German, however, she was very much Polish. Upon trying to find something on others with the same last name, I am finding nothing. Could "Link" have been shortened and if so, what could it have derived from?

Any help would be appreciated.
