He did our family tree years ago and know's a lot about the name. I believe the name dates back to the French Huguenots who got the boot from France then wound up in Scotland, got the boot to Ireland then finally wound up in the New York area. A lot of them found their way up to the Atlantic provences in Canada at the out set of the Revolutionary war, many settled in Amherst and Springhill.
