Hi,
I am Italian and I have always believed that even if my surname comes from a strong catholic background, it has origins from the middle east. Maybe even jewish.
The reason is that if translated in English Pier=Peter and Simoni=Simons.
Now, the only thing that has always come to mind is that Simon was the name od Jesus preferred disciple and his name was then changed by jesus into Peter. Maybe wrong but if that is the case my assumption it has always been that I have the PeterSimon's ancestory?
Maybe my assumption couLd be fully surpeficial, but I always felt there is a connection there somewhere.
Most of my father's family have dark hair and olive skin.
What's your opinion?
